How do we receive a membership card?
Membership cards will be mailed to individual addresses by Nationals. *The local branch does not have membership cards.
*Membership cards that were sent to our branch prior to the sudden loss and death of our membership chair are in transition as we are currently reaching out to the person who retrieved thier belongings.
Where are the branch’s funds going?
Budget requests may be made by members. The process is located on our fiscal transparency page.
What are the responsibilities of the Election Supervisory Committee?
It shall be the duty of the Election Supervisory Committee to:
1. Supervise the Branch election.
2. Supervise the establishment of appropriate machinery, provisions, and procedures for conducting the election in accordance with this Constitution and the Manual for Branch Election Procedure, whether at an election meeting or at polling booths, in order to protect the right of each member of the Branch to cast his ballot properly and have it counted.
What is the meaning of interim chairs?
Interim means temporary. Almost all of our chairs within the past two years have either stepped down or passed away. Fortunately there is an upcoming branch election where there is opportunity to rebuild a strong support system within the branch.
Where can we read about election time/location/method guidelines?
We will be providing updates on the PDX NAACP Elections Page.
How may a chair be elected?
Chairs are appointed by the branch president, with the exception of the nomination and election supervisory committees, who will nominate their own chairs.
If membership has a recommended chair for one of our inactive committees then they may support the applicant in sending an email to email@example.com with the committee name, their cover letter, resume, and three references.
All races are welcome to apply, however we will prioritize BIPOC applicants.
How long do I have to be a member to vote in the branch elections?
Individuals must become a member by Oct. 20th to vote in our upcoming branch elections.
What do I do if I have not received my membership card?
If you have not received a membership card within a week or two of registering, call NAACP Membership at 866-636-2227 and request your membership number, the date your membership was communicated to our branch, and that a membership card be sent to you.
If no one answers at the general membership line, call Cynthia Dunyon at 443-992-1597
Are we allowed to set up supports for members that don’t have access to technology/access to transportation? E.g., ID people who are able to drive and transport people?
We would love to make the elections as accessible as possible. If volunteers want to help contribute to this idea please contact Treva at firstname.lastname@example.org!
How do we prove we are NAACP members when voting?
Members can prove membership with a DMV registered I.D. or passport. The secretary is the only person with access to the current membership list from national and is the only person who may confirm membership. You may contact email@example.com to find out your current membership status.
